Distance Education Scheduling Information
 

Course scheduling information applies to interactive TV courses, telecourses (public broadcast and video check-out), and internet courses scheduled every semester.

Internet courses

Announcement: Beginning Spring 2007, Internet section numbers were changed from 504 to the following:

        904-949   Courses that are 100% online (Students are not REQUIRED to attend any face-to-face meetings, including on-campus orientation or testing. Classes that have an OPTIONAL face-to-face component can be identified as 100% online.) Multiple sections of the same course should be numbered sequentially, e.g. SPCH 1300-904, 905, 906....

        950-979   Courses that are more than 50% and less than 100% online.  (Students are REQUIRED to attend one or more face-to-face meetings, including on-campus orientation or testing.) Multiple sections of the same course should be numbered sequentially, e.g. SPCH 1300-950, 951, 952....

        988   Honors courses

        990   Identifies a first-time offering of a course in which the instructor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Distance Education and will receive a stipend for course development. The Office of eLearning will notify departments when this section number is appropriate.

        It is important to note that ALL courses with 9xx section numbers are considered, and will be coded, as Internet courses for reporting purposes. The breakdown as indicated above is for internal tracking and reporting only.

Announcement:  Beginning Spring 2002, use the following format for including notes with all Interactive TV courses.

        Format:  Course number and Title, section numbers, will be offered through the Instructional Television System. 
        Example:  ENGL 3150, sections 501, 531, 541, and 561 will be offered through the Instructional Television System.

The shorter note reduces duplicate information and makes all ITV course notes standard.  Room numbers and location are listed by section number.
 

Interactive TV courses

For Interactive TV courses, room numbers, maximum enrollments per classroom, section numbers, and site codes are listed for on- and off-campus sites.   Enrollments are determined by the department and can vary by on- and off-campus sites..  Enrollments are usually limited for courses to meet oral, written, and/or technology intensive requirements.  Note:   for ETSU at Greeneville, a select number of undergraduate courses, and any upper-division and graduate courses can be scheduled.

 Telecourses

Since PBS discontinued public broadcast telecourses, the only telecourses offered at ETSU are offered via the streaming server. Registered students log in to the course in Desire2Learn and will be able to access the streaming server. Students who have insufficient web access to view videos from the streaming server can check out a series of dvds from the Office of eLearning located in the old College of Medicine.

Maximum enrollments are determined by a department for telecourses.
